Aside from money and time, the things that people donate are often, well, unwanted. Used running shoes, clunker cars, and out-of-style clothing aren’t something that people actually miss once they’re gone. But now, thanks to a brand-new Facebook app, microfinance enthusiasts can donate something that’s near and dear to them—their profile pictures.
The app was launched as part of ACCION USA’s campaign to earn a $1 million grant through Sam’s Club’s Giving Made Simple, an online voting challenge that’s letting Sam’s Club members choose where the company directs $4 million in charitable giving. By donating their profile picture for a day, users will help raise general awareness for U.S. microfinance AND drum up some funds to support American small businesses.
You can tell a lot from a person’s profile picture (and come on, admit that you ALWAYS check them out…)—everything from where they’re travelled, what their significant other looks like, and if they ever got rid of that horrible high school haircut. So microfinance enthusiasts: why not let YOUR friends know that you support the cause by donating your picture for a day or two?
