Acumen Fund Celebrates 8th Anniversary

Help us congratulate and celebrate Acumen Fund on their 8th Anniversary, today, April 1 2009. During the past eight years, the organization has invested over $40 million in social enterprises which serve the poor and have directly and tangibly changed millions of lives. To celebrate their 8 year anniversary we’ve compiled an abridged list of their impact around the world:

India:

-Over 60,000 people have access to lean water via 35 self sustaining water filtration plants (built or being constructed)

Environment Planning Group Limited (EPGL)

-$400 increase in income for farmers in rural India via modern irrigation techniques

-1.1 million people have been or will be impacted by the improved farming techniques

Global Easy Water Products (GEWP)

-Over 30,000 poor people in Mumbai have received emergency ambulance services

1298 Ambulances

-1,300 entrepreneurs added to the Drishtee distribution network

-300 women entrepreneurs funded

Drishtee Foundation

-6,000 people have been able to access low-cost pharmacy products in about 9 months

Medicine Shoppe India – Sehat

-48,000 people have regained their sight through low-cost eye glasses

VisionSpring

Pakistan:

-$100 million in loans to 300,000 clients have acquired microcredit

Kashf Foundation

-500,000 low income customers will or have been shielded from financial shocks via First Micro Insurance Agency

-50% decrease in water required to cultivate an acre of land via improved irrigation techniques

Kenya

-2,ooo homes for families which previously lived in and around the slums in Nairobi, Kenya

Jamii Bora

-12,600 metric tons of nutritionally-enriched porridge produced yearly to serve to low-income customers

Insta Products Limited

Tanzania

-Employ over 6,000 residents, most of whom are women
