The definition of charity, is to volunteer or collect money to help others in need, what could be more simple than that? Project 7 is taking that premise and making it even easier. This innovative organization intends for you to help others without really trying.
By purchasing items you would have most likely bought anyway; i.e. bottled water, gum, breath mints and t-shirts, you can contribute to help one of the seven areas of need. Depending on your purchase, Project 7 will donate to a specific charity. For example, each of the water bottles will state on the label which charity you want to contribute to:
• Build the future
• Feed the hungry
• Heal the sick
• Help those in need
• Hope for peace
• House the homeless
• Save the planet
You can choose one for every day of the week.

The goal at Project 7 is to donate $15,000 to each of the causes, for a total of $105,000 in 2009. Their mission includes a great way to see your donation in action, “Project 7 will take more than 50 percent of profits from its products to create a community piggy-bank. Throughout the year, the company will accept applications from nonprofits that benefit one of the seven causes, eventually selecting three finalists for each. Project 7 will then invite consumers to vote online for the organization within each area that will receive proceeds collected from consumer purchases throughout the year.” That way it is up to you to decide not only where the money goes – but also which organization is the best for each cause. Project 7’s water bottles are made out of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and are 100% recyclable. The shirts are really cool too, they are 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled PET plastic bottles. It takes about 5 bottles to make one shirt. The packaging also lives up to their standards, 100% recyclable, space saving boxes printed with soy ink means less trucking to get to you.

One more thing, Project 7 is a grassroots organization so they rely on us to help spread their good word and work. We can all change the score and help them to help others by asking our local grocery stores to carry Project 7, and buy a shirt and wear it!
