In India, bribes impact everyday life – from obtaining birth certificates and passports to entry into schools – all paid on top of a government fee. Vijay Anand co-founded the 5th Pillar to eliminate this type of corruption by providing citizens with resources and tools, such as the Zero Rupee Note. This bill looks like currency but allows citizens to refuse and condemn bribery without fear. Check out Vijay Anand’s PopTech 2010 stage talk in which he discusses the development of the 5th Pillar and the successes that the Zero Rupee Note has garnered.
