Green Wine? I’ll Drink to That!

Written by on September 2, 2009 in Featured, Green, Videos - 5 Comments

As if I needed one more reason to love French Wine…I now have an excuse to imbibe the nectar of the gods more often. I have to admit that I usually drink my Pino out of a bottle (I do use a glass even if I’m by myself), half of the wine drinking experience is the elegant ritual of opening and serving the wine.  But French Rabbit has made wine in a box that is both – chic and responsible. But could it be - elegant? The fact is these cute little juice boxes are all grown up and earning quite a reputation. This wine could indeed be the next French Revolution…

French Rabbit’s one of a kind Tetra Prisma packaging is designed to “revolutionize the wine industry”. They reduce packaging by 90% (compared to bottled wine) are 100% recyclable, and possibly the best part…there are a full two extra glasses per liter than traditional bottled wine. They also remind us that the environment is less burdened by boxed wine, we all know the environmental impact that comes from shipping and if “25 trucks of empty glass wine bottles are the same as 1 truck of empty French Rabbit boxes”, that is a great thing. They also boast that they have saved the planet over 4,400,000 pounds of GHG emissions and have planted 35,000 trees through their partnership with American Forests.

French Rabbit wine is available in 4 popular flavors:
Pino Noir
Merlot
Cabernet Sauvignon
Chardonnay

And also:
Family Reserve White
Family Reserve Red
Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc Blend

FR2

Now to actually taste the wine, my fellow “I love zee French Rabbit wine!” groupies on Facebook seem to really enjoy it. One fan (sorry Linda) loves French Rabbit because the easy recycled packaging keeps her frequent wine consumption from the neighbors on recycle day. But the rest seem to really like the flavors (unless they are just not as honest as Linda) and are having a hard time choosing the best one. The Boisset family has been making wine for two generations in the some of the best regions in southern France.

The French Rabbit website is great for helping you pair your new box of wine with dinner and there is a sweet little feature that encourages you to send a ‘love letter’ to your crush with the help of a ‘French friend’. I will post my review of the wine for you - and if you have tried it – please send me your thoughts and reviews. Until then - Here’s to French Rabbits and boxes of wine! Savor the wine – Save the planet – Cheers!

Sorry, the recyclability of the packaging is mainly theoretical.

good thinking & a modern approach towards wine pacakaging. i think this approach will bring a new wine revolution. I hope this concept will win the hearts of all the wine producers & exporters all over the world.I know this will take some years for all the producers of wine to realize that this is themost economical way of packaging wine. By implementing this method they can cutdown the cost of the glass bottles which will inturn increase their profit. But above all the ” CUSTOMER”is the king & all depends on his taste . i think this concept will not attract a majority of wine consumers may be due to the lack of ethnic look of the wine.

    Wow Tom,
I did not realize that there is a special process to recycle the Tetra-Pak, that is not good – right now it seems they are only able to be recycled in the U.K. Hopefully this will catch on so they can be recycled here in the U.S. too.

    Thanks for the information.

Wine cabinets are generally completely essential if you want to store your wines correctly and they are usually the last word in convenience as well as efficiency. These cabinets were created to residence wine collections and the current market is actually supplied with versions of different styles and sizes. A few cabinets are usually electro-mechanical and come with cooling things that take the hassle out of storing wine.
