Let’s Get Nearly Naked and Save the World (Again)

Improv Everywhere is up to their shenanigans again….They enjoyed success at their 9th Annual No Pants! Subway Ride, harnessing a crowd of over 5,000 people in New York and much more worldwide. Yet what made this year a little bit left of the norm is that approximately 20 brave souls in China decided to do the subway strip as well – only in hopes of getting a reaction much stronger than the laughter and confusion that New Yorkers typically deliver.

Chinese environmentalists went pantsless for the environment last Sunday, sporting claims like “So hot” and “Low carbon life-style – free and easy” scrawled across their bums. For 40 minutes, they endured the traditional harsher scrutiny of public etiquette by their fellow Chinese while pretending to go about their daily routine – reading magazines, listening to music, talking on their cell phones – on the Guangzhou subway. In the aftermath of the Copenhagen climate change conference, these Chinese are working hard to keep the environment fresh – incredibly fresh – in people’s minds. With an economy that increases nearly 8% each year, the Republic of China’s negative environmental emissions stand to double in the next 15 years. This is not good for a country already plagued by pollution.

Fortunately, the Chinese environmental exhibitionists were allowed to make their statement without repercussions from the police, although participants were prepared to face arrest. One boxer-clad lad estimated that he saved 7kg in carbon manufacturing costs by shedding his skivvies.
