The future is here, Masdar City plans to be the model for the world to follow by being the planet’s first carbon neutral, zero waste city, powered by 100% renewable energy. The capital city of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, is committed to sustainable and renewable resources, despite the rest of the world’s dependence on petroleum, and UAE’s ample supply of it, they have decided to lead in another direction. Masdar City will support 1,500 cleantech companies, over 40,000 residents and 50,000 commuters, and will have thriving international retail and business sectors.

The combination of innovative technology, renewable resources, sustainable energy sources and zero automobiles will make Masdar City unlike any in the world. Masdar, which means ‘the source’ in Arabic, plans to be the source of global innovation, development and renewable energy research.

The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan encouraged environmental conservation in UAE. That spirit is being carried on and enhanced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh the Chairman of the Masdar Initiative and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the CEO of Masdar, these men are committed to making Abu Dhabi the center of the world from which all future cities emanate.

Adding to Masdar’s superior level of achievement, this January, the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology announced that it has joined forces with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Energy Initiative, (MITEI), to reinforce continuing research and development of alternative and renewable energy ingenuity. The Masdar Institute will welcome its first students in fall of 2009.

The Masdar Initiative also awards the Zayed Future Energy Prize each year as a memorial to the late Sheikh Zayed, to honor innovators in the future of energy. Mr. Dipal Chandra Barua, Founding Managing Director of Grameen Shakti, was the winner in 2009; his visionary efforts brought renewable energy solutions to the rural population of Bangladesh. Mr. Barua, received US$1.5 million to continue his mission.

The future is now for Masdar, we can only stand back in awe and admire the city that is changing our future.

The first word that comes to mind after seeing the video is superb. In designing and developing future cities certain factors may be taken into consideration.
    1. It has to be totally enviornment friendly.
    2. Must have zero carbon footprint.
3.Mass transit system have to be air-conditioned, very sleek and sophisticated in design which would blend with the surrounding in a nonagressive way.
4.People would love to use such transit system instead of automobiles.
    5. 40%of the surface area to be dedicated to forests and lakes and gardens and 20% of the area to be dedicated to transportation systems which would be multilayered.
I have written a science fiction novel MEGALOPOLIS ONE 2080 A.D. which tells the story of the lives of people in a very advanced and futuristic mega city in the year 2080. Please visit the website http://www.eloquentbooks.com/MegalopolisOne2080AD.html

I’ve been living in Asia for four years so I find this interesting. I am curious to know what you think about dating Asian women, as far as how well they adjust to moving to a Western country. I’ve contemplated bringing my Thai girlfriend back to Europe with me but I am not sure if she would acclimate to the new environment. I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with dating Asian women overseas and bringing them to another country?
