Today I am proud to announce that Mobilize.org is planning to acquire Sparkseed.*
For the last three years, the Sparkseed team worked hard to do everything we can to support the next generation of social entrepreneurs. This acquisition will accelerate Sparkseed’s ability to do just that.
Mobilize.org’s mission to empower and invest in Millennials to create and lead solutions to social problems is aligned with Sparkseed’s mission. The organization’s leadership is extremely talented, and is supported by forward-thinking and well-respected foundations.
I have personally been working with the Mobilize.org team and am excited for them to take Sparkseed’s programs to the next level.
For nearly a decade, Mobilize.org has maintained a unique dedication to the perspectives, needs, and innovations of the Millennial Generation. I’ve been especially inspired to see the success of the social and civic entrepreneurs Mobilize.org supports.
Team Rubicon, for example, is an organization providing life-sustaining medical aid in isolated areas of the world, often before other organizations can get there. Team Rubicon has already provided life saving services to people in Burma, Pakistan, Chile, Haiti and Joplin, Missouri. Like the social entrepreneurs that Sparkseed has been supporting, these young changemakers are passionate, hard working and creative.
By combining our resources, programs, and histories of success, this partnership will have an aggregate impact that will be much larger than if Sparkseed and Mobilize.org continued as two separate organizations working on their own. Here’s how this new partnership will work:
- Mobilize.org will acquire Sparkseed’s assets, brand, and programs.
- Mobilize.org will incorporate Sparkseed’s Social Innovation program into its current Awardee program.
- Mobilize.org staff will run Sparkseed’s programs.
- Sparkseed’s staff and board will disband formally.
- I am honored to join Mobilize.org’s board to provide strategic advice and any introductions that will further the Mobilize.org mission.
Social entrepreneurship has grown in visibility and effectiveness since Sparkseed was founded in 2007. I believe this is only a beginning. The young social entrepreneurs that Mobilize.org and Sparkseed have, and will continue to support, will have an impact that may be hard for us to even anticipate.
-Mike Del Ponte, Founder of Sparkseed
*Point of clarification: Mobilize.org and Sparkseed have entered into a definitive agreement pursuant to which Mobilize shall acquire the assets of Sparkseed. The closing of the transaction is subject to the consent of the California Attorney General’s office, which is expected to be obtained within 20 days.
