New App Helps Monitor Daily Moods, Depression

When I first sat down with Brice Pollock, my brother and a software engineer earning his master’s degree at Iowa State, to talk about DayBreak, an iOS app for iPhone, iPod and iPad that he created to help anyone monitor their daily emotional ups and downs, his response surprised me.

“After using the app myself,” Brice explained. “I’ve learned some interesting things about my good and bad days. For example, due to poor sleeping habits on Thursdays, I normally have slightly less positive days. I never would have noticed that before looking at my mood history in DayBreak.”

I found this observation very profound as at the outset his idea was to help people struggling with depression better map their moods. But, the fact is, everyone has mood swings that vary in size and frequency. Even Brice, the developer himself, learned something interesting about himself that otherwise went overlooked.

After trying out the app myself, I found DayBreak’s interface to be simple and easy to use. It does the job it was made for and it does it well. Utilizing this small bit of technology to manage your daily grind has huge potential to truly create a happier life no matter what type of emotional state you are in.

To try the app for yourself, download it for free at the iTunes Store.
