Peaks Foundation: Women with Altitude

The sun is just reaching the pinnacle of its daily journey toward the horizon. The sky glows with the intense pink-orange fire only seen in a sunrise over the mountains. Volcanic earth crunches gloriously below my feet with each exhilarating step. On every exhale, my warm breath meets the frigid air creating an ephemeral puff of white. My soul is warm and my body vibrates with excitement as I ascend above the billowing clouds that float gracefully in the air. Beautiful wild lands sprawl out in the distance. Silence and stillness envelop me in peace, yet my inner being is buzzing – moved with awe for the grandeur of my surroundings. My heart pounds with energy as I take the final steps to the summit. As I reach the Roof of Africa, and greet my teammates – talented, strong women from across the globe – we hug and cheer. Together, we have made this dream a reality and have made a difference while doing so! ~ Journal Entry from a 2011 Peaks Foundation Participant

Who We Are

Would you like to fill your journal with entries like this one? Are you a motivated woman looking for adventure with a purpose? Peaks Foundation organizes global mountain challenges for women who want to create positive change in the world, challenge themselves and explore new terrain. We support women and girls in mountain communities where these challenges take place by providing critical funding for local nonprofit organizations. We are ordinary women with an extraordinary vision: a world in which every woman has the opportunity to set her sights high and reach her highest potential.

Our Impact

Peaks Foundation provides grants to nonprofit groups around the world that empower women and girls. In doing so, we strengthen individuals, families, communities and entire countries. We focus our support on established and effective organizations and initiatives that have long-lasting and sustainable results. Since our first climb in 2007, we have run four challenges, distributed $685,000, supported 4 organizations and touched thousands of lives. The most incredible part is that we are just getting started….

Our Adventures

Just this year, we expanded operations and now offer a variety of challenges in Africa, Asia and South America. A group of intrepid women will spend 1 week scrambling the slopes of the Gulap Kangri to benefit the Druk White Lotus School buried deep in the Himalaya of Northern India. Those up for a bigger challenge can climb three of Africa’s highest mountains in just three weeks to raise awareness and money for the peak issues facing the continent: education, health and the environment. For a complete list of opportunities, visit our website.

Join Us! (or Get Involved)

Although these expeditions are adventurous and challenging, anyone can join and be successful – even if you have never climbed a mountain. The women who climb with us give a great deal, but also gain an enormous amount; many return home with a renewed perspective, a sense of personal achievement, increased confidence and new friends from across the globe.

By joining a climb or becoming a member of the Foundation, you will directly contribute to the advancement of girls and women worldwide while embracing adventure, pushing yourself and supporting local organizations.
