Detailed in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the President announced on May 27th, that $467 million will be assigned for development and implementation of Geothermal and Solar projects in the United States. The technology will create clean green jobs and bring the United States into the light with solar and geothermal sources for alternative energy. Although developing countries such as  China and India are leading the alternative energy revolution, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will provide the US the shot in the arm  needed to compete with other countries. At the same time reducing greenhouse gas emmissions and stimulating the US economy.

President Obama had this to say about the subject, “We have a choice. We can remain the world’s leading importer of oil, or we can become the world’s leading exporter of clean energy,” said President Obama. “We can hand over the jobs of the future to our competitors, or we can confront what they have already recognized as the great opportunity of our time: the nation that leads the world in creating new sources of clean energy will be the nation that leads the 21st century global economy. That’s the nation I want America to be.”

It is evident that the President is focused on creating a green economy here in the US. Wealthy countries in Europe and the United Arab Emirates have sophisticated renewable energy systems already in place and are much closer to energy independence and the United States is now poised to catch up, if not lead in the effort.

Loving obama’s passion but I’m doubtful this initiative will help the economy at all during this next year. I know i’m pessimistic, but I think there is a lot more bad to come before we see the economy recover.
