The world has been fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic for 30 years and Support For International Change (SIC), an organization that is dedicated to limiting the impact of HIV/AIDS in underserved communities, has been doing our part by sending volunteers to educate local communities in Tanzania about this preventable disease.
SIC’s volunteer programs provides university students and recent graduates an opportunity to run HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns and directly impact rural communities by working alongside local Tanzanians. Our volunteers dedicate most of their time teaching, creating lesson plans and training peer educators. They are also involved in community assessment work within their assigned villages. In addition to these responsibilities, SIC also strongly encourages our volunteers to take the lead on other projects related to SIC’s work.

My experience volunteering with Support for International Change’s HIV Awareness Campaign was simply life changing. Beyond providing HIV education and testing to rural villagers in Tanzania, I was able to learn about global health, different cultures, and even a bit of Swahili. I never expected that I would have such a great impact on the people that I met, and I never expected to have been so greatly impacted myself. Now, I can see myself in perspective to people in a different part of the world; I feel like a global citizen. Thank you so much friends, family, SIC, and AllPeopleBeHappy for making this possible! – Huan Dong
