Facebook recently announced the winners of its 2009 Facebook Fund Competition recently renamed the fbFund REV. We’d like to take a moment to highlight one winner in particular that operates within the socially conscious realm.
Samasource, selected along with 17 other startups as a recipient of the award, allows “talented but marginalized individuals to empower themselves through internet based work.”
The company screens competent small businesses from the most impoverished regions of our world, provides them with strategic guidance and project management tools and connects them with U.S. based clients who can outsource work to them. Think of it as outsourcing while ensuring the dignity of those executing the work.
If you’re an opponent of outsourcing because of exploitation etc, then Samasource should capture your attention and possibly your encouragement.
Below is a presentation by Founder, Leila Janah, making a case for Samasource.
