The more we become aware of what it really means to be socially conscious, the more likely we are to make tiny changes contributing to a more sustainable, equitable lifestyle. At SocialEarth, we believe a great way to become more aware and engaged in causes for good starts right in your own backyard. Get connected to local organizations and people who are fighting the good fight. Some ideas? Shop your local farmers market, join a socially conscious book club, or support an inner city school project. There are a myriad of ways for you to get involved and actively participate.
A new organization which connects people for social good on local level is Minneapolis based Social Capital. Recently launched, Social Capital aims to “raise funds for donation to charitable organizations through social gatherings and private online contributions.” By organizing local ‘meet-ups’ with the intent of giving back, Social Capital is creating a motivated and organic hub for social good. The organization plans to host quarterly events with the intent to raise funds for a variety of charitable causes as well as mobilize members to participate volunteer events throughout the year.
Their first event is scheduled for August 8th with a goal to raise funding for three local charities: Clare Housing, Camp Odayin and Bridges to Learning. Kudos to the team at Social Capital for taking the initiative to do some good.
