On April 23, five notable social enterprises received monetary awards totaling $150,000 to bring their ideas to fruition. The competition, called Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation was hosted by Washington University’s Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and YouthBridge Community Foundation.
The five winners, selected from a group of 42 entrants, were:
Fathers Support Center Legal Clinic: awarded $30,000 to support certified, affordable, paralegal services to non-custodial fathers
Missouri Women in Trades: awarded $25,000 to promote personal and professional empowerment of women through careers in construction trades
Rupununi Learners: awarded $25,000 to promote literacy in a remote region of Guyana, South America by providing books to 10,000 students
The Exchange: awarded $35,000 support a proposed resale shop of the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition targeting teens and young adults
Urban Studio Café: received $30,000 to promote creative youth development
