There are 1 million charities in the United States and another quarter million charities in Canada. I believe that social games can help real-world charities reach their goals and I plan to create a non-project that does just that. My personal mission is to inspire people to play social games that will build awareness for non-profits from every corner of the world. I was exposed to some very inspiring, innovation people in the tech, non-profit and social media arenas + the way people interact with social media has left lost of room for innovation = oh, my-goodness-this-is-my-calling moment. These are exciting times!
Ever since I had my idea–three weeks ago–I switched into social entrepreneur mode. I felt like I was on speed. Even when faced with exhaustion, my passion for realizing my vision keeps me going. Btw, it’s currently 2:01 a.m. I rather do this then sleep. I love my sleep. You get the idea. :0)
What makes my idea unique?
It’s the most social way of giving, feels more engaging than merely cutting a cheque, and this game is the first of its kind–ever. People around me are starting to get excited, including people in the industry looking for partnerships and offers of help. My first phase of crowd sourcing was to raise fund of $1,000 and covered for domain registration, name approval, federal registration, trademarking and logo design. This was a success!
My second phase of crowd sourcing is with IndieGoGo–the world’s largest crowd funding site. My campaign is called Social Gaming for Social Good. I’m trying to raise $3,000 with details of the breakdown of where funds would be allocated on the site. The link will lead you to a 23-second video that conveys the potential of an organization that focuses on social gaming for social good.
Please help support me by donating to the campaign. Even $1 can go a long way. A little bit of support from a large number people is what makes crowd funding so important, collaborative and community based. You also get the added benefit of a series of rewards / perks for your donations, such as a basket full of traditional Canadian goodies.
If you have any questions, please email me at llwalker [at] gmail [dot] com.
Join me in becoming a slave to innovation!
