Today, the Summer of Social Good campaign announced this week’s initiative: #FindingTheGood, a scheme designed to find the best practices for using social media for social good. As we reported two weeks ago, the Summer of Social Good which is organized by Mashable, is the first large scale online charitable campaign to raise funds strictly online through the power of Social Media and the Internet. Check out the Summer of Social Good Widget, which is a live status of how much money has been raised.
#FindingTheGood is a scavenger hunt of sorts- Mashable is wondering how you, other individuals, or organizations are using social media for good. To participate, tweet your idea to @socialgood with the hashtag #findingthegood, or post a comment here.
Along with the scavenger hunt discovery, the Summer of Social Good will provide details on how the four charities involved; WWF, The Humane Society, LIVESTRONG, and Oxfam America are leveraging social media for social good.
Last week, Harvard Business Publishing released a great article on how social media can be utilized by non-profits to achieve their objectives. If you are a non-profit just getting started in social media, check out the presentation below by Primal Media:
