greenwala

Greenwala is a green social community comprised of people who help others live a greener lifestyle by sharing their knowledge, green experiences and actions with friends, family and the world.

Greenwala members can read expert articles, post comments on blogs, join or start groups, find new friends, shop and (just by joining) plant a tree.

That’s right! The Greenwala One Million Tree Challenge is a quest to plant one tree for every new member, until one million trees have been planted.

All you have to do is sign up and you can help reduce the impact of global warming.

Of course, after you sign up you can participate in Greenwala’s Treewala and play the Treewala vocabulary game. The game gives you questions to answer and if answered correctly credit you with a “leaf.”

20 leaves equals one tree and thanks to Treewala’s partners, the Marion Institute and Las Gaviotas project, every time you reach 20 leaves an actual tree will be planted!

So far, 7,018 trees have been planted. Great news, huh!

You now have another way to make a real impact online (don’t forget about Better The World and Everywun)!

Hi. It’s nice to see that you’re profiling Greenwala — I’ve been a member for about 6 months now and think that it’s changed my life for the better. Pre-Greenwala, I knew that I wanted to green up my life but I wasn’t exactly sure how to take it from the thinking stage into the doing stage. Then, I was talking with a friend about how I needed a nudge in the right direction and they recommended that I check out Greenwala. Honestly, I haven’t turned back. Since becoming a member, I feel that my range of eco-knowledge has expanded 100 fold. In addition to getting advice from other members about how to make better environmentally friendly lifestyle choices and reading all of the fantastic articles posted on the site, I’ve even stepped up to the plate and have begun contributing my own posts. I think that it’s a one stop shop for people — whatever shade of green they are — to have fun, expand their minds and interact with conscientious people who care about the future of the earth. Basically, it’s kind of like Facebook, but with purpose and fulfillment. Major thumbs up — everyone should check it out. Plus, now they have a few great contests running with some tasty prizes like $250 cash, a $250 Whole Foods gift card and a new Canon digital camera.
