The Social Entrepreneurship Lecture

social enterprise lecture

I discovered this lecture from Fredzimny regarding business models beyond profit.  The presentation presents a clear framework  of the nine building blocks for building a social enterprise:

1. Customer Segments

2. Value Proposition

3. Distribution Channels

4. Customer Relationships

5. Revenue Streams

6. Key Resources

7. Key Activities

8. Key Partners

9.  Cost Structure

If you are a current or aspiring social entrepreneur, I recommend taking a few minutes applying the model to your enterprise.

It's where we began with a “beyond profit” model in 1996 and a proposal for an alternate form of capitalism.

Social entrepreneurship is the need of the time, particularly for the not-so-developed and under-developed world. Business has to grow out of the pure profit-motive models so that the world develops in an equitable way.

    Hi TKG Namboodhiri,

Yes, it is important that enterprises realize that profit should not the only be the only end goal. In fact, to be successful I think organizations need to provide 'thick value' as described by Umair Haque at Harvard Business Publishing:

Hey, nice blog with good info. I really like coming back here often. There?s only one thing that annoys me and that is the misfunctioning of comment posting. I usually get to 500 error page, and have to do the post twice. – I asked the girl if she could bring a sister for me. She did. Sister Maria Teresa. It was a very slow evening. We discussed the New Testament. We agreed that He was very well adjusted for an only child. – Woody Allen Born 1935
