United Prosperity, an online platform which empowers struggling entrepreneurs in developing countries via loan guarantees, relaunched their website recently with some exciting new features.

Here is an overview:

1.) Entrepreneur Profiles

Similar to Kiva, you can see who you are supporting and their progress.

2.) Tweet this Entrepreneur

They are leveraging Twitter to get the word out about entrepreneurs on their site.  Here’s a sample.  And here’s what you’ll tweet:

“Please support this entrepreneur on United Prosperity: http://tinyurl.com/osgzp5 . Please RT.”

3.) Microfinance Institution Partners

United Prosperity works with microfinance institutions that can work with the entrepreneurs. Their first partner is the Ajiwika Society in India.

Along with the website relaunch, United Prosperity is rolling out with a new Twitter profile as well.  Take a look and follow the company as they grow.

Congrats to Bhalchander on the relaunch!  Check it out here.

  • Truly don't mean to sounds snarky...This is a sincere question.

This looks sadly like a manifestation of one of the downfalls of our current philanthropic system. Why, when a project like Kiva already exists, has crossed numerous startup hurdles, and is well on their way to actually making it in to the mainstream, would someone choose to create a competing organization with no significant competitive advantage (that will spend money on redundant overhead, not to mention having to learn many of the lessons already learned by their predecessor) instead of throwing their energy, passion, and whatever innovating ideas they have behind the existing successful project!?

It's hard to see that as anything other than ego getting in the way of the best interests of the cause.
