Ashoka, the world’s largest organization of social entrepreneurs, teamed up with Accenture as the convening sponsor to host a global competition—The League of Intrapreneurs: Building Better Business from the Inside Out.
Through our search, we have found 15 social intrapreneurs within leading companies who are pioneering projects that have the capacity to transform both business and society. Their ideas do more than social good—they work to alter existing product delivery systems and revenue streams, spearheading socially-conscious innovations and aligning them to the company’s business strategy.
We present the inaugural League of Intrapreneurs:
Interface – Can Carpet Save Our Seas?
Virgin Atlantic – Sustainable fuel solutions for aviation
TNT Express – Slum Logistics: mobile based addresses for slum areas
PepsiCo – Food for Good
Standard Chartered – Adapting commercial finance structures to benefit Ghana’s small-scale farmers
Tribanco – Expanding training to the value chain
GSK – Low-cost diagnostics for Africa
Unilever – The Lifebuoy Way of Life: Saving Lives with Soap
Green Mountain Coffee – Fighting Hunger in the Coffeelands

And, this Friday, you can co-host a discussion with Business Fights Povertyaround intrapreneurship and the role of corporations in facilitating social change.
To participate, register right here and start sharing your insights!
We will finish off the week with an online Twitter discussion, gleaning insights from our League members. Learn how to join the conversation below!
What is a #SocEntChat and how does it work?
A #SocEntChat is a real-time, Twitter-based discussion about social entrepreneurship that focuses on specific issues, areas, themes, and events—in this case, social intrapreneurship. It is designed for current and aspiring social entrepreneurs, funders, journalists, and supporters to share ideas, discuss the state of the field, identify the latest innovations, and pinpoint areas requiring deeper exploration.
Joining the conversation is easy. Just log-in to Twitter at 10 a.m. on March 8th, 2013. Then:
- Use the #SocEntChat and #SocInt hashtags to make your comments visible in the stream. Use search.twitter.com or an application like TweetDeck (www.tweetdeck.com) or thwirl (www.thwirl.com) to follow the #SocEntChat hashtag and keep up with the conversation.
- Introduce yourself and take a minute to get to know the other chatters when you join.
- Send your questions to @changemakers without the hash tag (to keep them out of the stream) so they can be considered for this conversation.
Please remember to use the #SocEntChat and #SocInt hashtags, stay on topic, be respectful, and have fun! And be sure to invite your friends and followers to join the discussion, too; the best way is to post a tweet like this one:
Join @changemakers on 3/8 at 10am ET for a #SocEntChat about how companies can support social intrapreneurs. Spread the word, save the date!
Catch you on Twitter!
